( Fri., Feb. 21, 2014 - Sat., Mar. 1, 2014 )
Historic Stagville, 5828 Old Oxford Road, Durham, NC 27712
Bare Theatre's critically-acclaimed Let Them Be Heard series, with never before seen adaptations of testimonies from formerly enslaved North Carolinians. This production is staged in and around the original slave quarters at Stagville's Horton Grove.
Each hour-long performance is a lantern-lit walking tour that moves in and around the historic structures and bonfire pit. Performances run each night at 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, and 8:00 PM. Space is extremely limited, so audiences are encouraged to make reservations early.
The text has been taken directly from the Works Progress Administration's Slave Narrative Project, and contains language and graphic descriptions of violence that may not be suitable for all audiences. Parents are encouraged to use discretion when bringing young children.
Let Them Be Heard moves to The ArtsCenter in Carrboro March 7-16, where it will play for the first time in a theater, under the direction of Theatre Director Jeri Lynn Schulke. For more details, click here.
Please note: "We are on even if it rains on Friday and will run performances as long as there is audience. Depending on how much it's raining, the actors who are supposed to be outside may move indoors."
