Born on St. Cecilia’s Day in 1913, Benjamin Britten has been heralded as the finest British composer of the later 20th century. His works, from the opera Peter Grimes to The War Requiem to The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, have all become standard repertoire. UNCSA joins the international celebration of this composer’s 100th birthday by exploring his music. Our year-long celebration of Britten’s music culminates in a recital marking the centenary of his birth. Janine Hawley, Glenn Siebert, Brooks Whitehouse, Allison Gagnon and their faculty colleagues join forces for a program comprising selections from Britten’s recital compositions including A Charm of Lullabies and Sonata in C.
