Duke University Department of Music: “The Duke String School” – Intermediate, Concert, and Youth Symphony Orchestras

Performances given by the Duke University String School Intermediate String Orchestra,

Concert String Orchestra, and Youth Symphony Chamber Orchestra. Conductors include,
Matt Stutzman, Rob Rempher, and Harry Davidson, conductor of the Duke Symphony
Orchestra. Livestream available. “The Duke String School” is directed by Erica Shirts. Violin
and Cello Choirs are conducted by Carlos Bardales, Erica Leavell, Nonoko Okada, and Erica
Shirts. The Duke University String School was founded by Dorothy Kitchen and a member
of the Ciompi Quartet, Arlene di Cecco, in 1967, and has been part of Duke ever since.
DUSS serves area students in grades K-12, teaching the violin, viola, cello, and bass through
private lessons, chamber music groups, and orchestras at a variety of levels.
