Narrator Alison, a queer woman, recalls her own childhood experiences of discovering her identity, reconciling those memories with the unresolved pain and mystery of her father’s suicide. A closeted gay man himself, Bruce raised an outwardly loving family that nonetheless stumbled when it came to honest connections with one another.
