Back-to-School with PEEP!!! (Dog & Pony Show, Sept. 27-28, in Manbites Dog Theater in Durham) and Sodom (Sept. 28 only) will be more thoroughly critiqued in an upcoming edition of Robert’s Reviews. But, for now, suffice it to say that our beloved Miss Pixie (Lissa Brennan ) triumphed again in the latest installment of her lively vaudeville and burlesque revue. Brennan, a real beauty and a consummate comedienne who is fast becoming the Triangle’s version of Lucille Ball, again demonstrated her virtuosity in a fast-paced series of R-rated comic sketches and risqué song and dance numbers.
Jay O’Berski, who specializes in vividly portraying clumsy immigrant characters and husbands doing a slow burn at the breakfast table, again proved a more than capable foil for Brennan’s monkey business. Lance Waycaster gets better and better as Bucky Sidewinder, the ill-tempered and sarcastic emcee of PEEP. Leigh Hall, Hope Hynes, Derrick Ivey, and Jane Allen Wilson provide comic relief. Torch singer Maureen McMullen Muntner contributed some scorching solos, and guest artists Hellion and Ken Ray Wilemon provided some variety with off-the-wall musical acts that had to be seen to be believed.
