Dog & Pony Show will present Smut: An Evening of Literary Erotica March 19 and 20 at Manbites Dog Theater in Durham, NC. Smut is the latest installment in Dog & Pony Show’s Page-to-Stage series, which adapter and director Lissa Brennan describes as “evenings of short scenes and monologues adapted from literature.”
Brennan has adapted and directed excerpts from My Secret Life by an anonymous Victorian gentlemen; The Story of the Eye by Georges Bataille; Fanny Hill by John Cleland; The Pure and the Impure by Colette; Shamela by Henry Fielding; Against Nature by J.K. Huysman; Maldoror by Lautreamont; Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller; The Kama Sutra by Vatsyayana Mallanaga; The Torture Garden by Octave Mirbeau; The Story of O by Pauline Reage; Pamela by Samuel Richardson; the poetry of Lord Rochester; Portnoy’s Complaint by Philip Roth; Venus in Furs by Leopold von Sacher Masoch; and Philosophy in the Bedroom by the Marquis de Sade.
In addition to Lissa Brennan, the show’s performers will include Flynt Burton, Emma Cabrera, Anthony Caporale, John Honeycutt, Byron Jennings, Gina Kelly, David Klionsky, Jay O’Berski, Michael O’Foghludha, Scott Pardue, and Beth Popelka.
