Cecilia Whalen

Cecilia Whalen is a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte pursuing a triple major in Dance, English, and French. She is a practicing dancer, pursuing a career as a modern dancer and choreographer.

Cecilia is a staff writer for the UNC Charlotte Niner Times, covering artistic events on-campus and city-wide. She has written numerous reviews, previews, and interviews published in print and online for the student-run newspaper. As a high school student, Cecilia was the Editor-in-Chief of her high school newspaper, The Eagle, and a winner of several writing awards, including the Blumenthal Performing Arts and Charlotte Observer “Best Student Critic” Blumey Award in 2017, and a Scholastic Art and Writing Award “Gold Key” in 2018 for her personal essay on jazz. Cecilia holds a strong interest in jazz music and is also a practicing jazz drummer.

Cecilia is currently an intern with CVNC, and covers events in Charlotte and the Charlotte region.
