When Lucy and Henry Ingram founded Music for a Great Space 23 years ago, one of their dreams was to have performances of early music in Christ United Methodist Church – one of several “great spaces” the organization uses for performances. Specifically, Lucy has always thought that the sound of a countertenor, a classical male singing voice with an ethereal timbre, would be magnificent in the space.

Finally, after 23 years, her wish will be fulfilled with not only one, but two countertenors and a soprano. TREFOIL is a trio of singer-instrumentalists long active in early music. The performers have been tagged as “a hearty trio of medieval music specialists,” and their work as “an intricate, enigmatic vocal art.” (The Philadelphia Inquirer). They will present a program of medieval music on Friday October 18, 2013 at 7:30 pm at Chris United Methodist Church, 410 Holden Road.

Lucy Ingram explains what makes this music so special: “Medieval music often has an enchanting, sometimes even ghostly quality to it. The sounds produced by TREFOIL’s three singers will simply fill the space in such a glorious way. Some of their selections will also showcase their instrumental skills on various harps, the lute, and gittern, giving a real liveliness and variety to the program.”

This concert is sponsored by five long-time Music for a Great Space supporters: Tim Lindeman and Nancy Walker, Randy Ferguson, and Dan and Janet Bassford. Dr. Lindeman, past-president of Music for a Great Space explains why he felt compelled to sponsor this event. “Early Music is a beautiful, engaging, and exciting type of music. When I had the opportunity to help bring TREFOIL – masters of early music – to Greensboro, I couldn’t pass it up. This is a concert that every music appreciator should hear.”
