April 15, 2021 - Charlotte, NC:

This preview has been provided by Charlotte Youth Ballet.

Charlotte Youth Ballet (CYB) is thrilled to announce our upcoming first-ever virtual storybook classic ballet performance, Alice in Wonderland.

Although the last year gave us quite a challenge, performance-wise, CYB leaned into what dance has taught us about perseverance, determination, and creativity, and we found a way to offer our dancers a new and exciting opportunity to perform safely. By using fewer dancers, socially distanced and masked, Donald Devet of Now and Then Video filmed short sections that have been compiled into a feature-length story.

Our artistic team, including Artistic Directors Mrs. Gay Porter and Ms. Bridget Young, worked diligently to redesign the choreography and music for a filmed ballet, showcasing Alice’s adventures as she tumbles down the rabbit hole and into a new and strange world. In this virtual 45-minute performance you will be danced away to a world of bizarre tea parties, talking cats and dancing flowers and a Queen with a particular dislike for our heroine Alice. Featured artists include mime-clown-dancer Hardin Minor and variety performer Drew Nowlin, who bring their unique talents into this reimagined, colorful production.

The video will be available on-demand to ticketholders any time between the premiere on April 15 and June 2nd.

Join us for this wonderful opportunity to support the NC Arts and support the youth of our great state.
