This preview has been provided by Chamber Music Raleigh.
Chamber Music Raleigh opens the 2018-19 season with the Jasper String Quartet and composer, violinist and singer, Caroline Shaw. The Quartet will perform two works by Shaw: Valencia and By and By for string quartet and voice; Joseph Haydn's String Quartet Op. 64, No. 6 in E-Flat Major and Brahms String Quintet Op. 111 in G Major, in which Shaw will play viola.
Caroline Shaw received the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Partita for 8 Voices and is the youngest composer to receive the honor. A North Carolina native currently teaching at New York University, Shaw returns to her home state, which has served as an influence and inspiration for her art.
Winner of the prestigious CMA Cleveland Quartet Award, the Jasper String Quartet is the Professional Quartet in Residence at Temple University's Center for Gifted Young Musicians and the 2017-18 Guest Artist in Residence at Swarthmore College.
