It makes you wonder when you enter an auditorium for a performance and are immediately offered earplugs. And you wonder even more when you notice the musicians taking the earplugs, too. Welcome to our world!
During its unique performances of classical and popular music, anything can – and often does – happen. Skits, dance routines, props, and jokes are regular features of the performance. The audience is always encouraged to keep their cell phones ON in hopes that the performance might be interrupted.
This performance will feature works by Handel, Mussorgsky, Verdi, and Tchaikovsky, along with the traditional holiday sing-along portion of the program. Bring your sense of humor and enjoy a whimsical introduction to the holiday season.
The Really Terrible Orchestra of the Triangle (RTOOT) is a full symphony orchestra composed of amateur musicians. The RTOOT provides a unique opportunity for amateur musicians in the Triangle. Many musicians have not touched an instrument since their long-ago school years. Just as many are musicians are learning to play a new instrument for the first time. All are united in the love for performing as a group.
Founded by "My Strow" W. Sands Hobgood in 2008, the orchestra is now conducted by Dr. Robert Petters, Emeritus Professor and previous chair of the Music Department at North Carolina State University.
