October 7, 2017 - Raleigh, NC:

This preview has been provided by Raleigh Camerata.

Noted for their "richly varied and engaging" performances by CVNC reviewer John Lambert, the Raleigh Camerata is readily making a name for itself in Early Music in North Carolina and beyond.

Come enjoy a lovely afternoon of music making this Saturday, October 7 at 3:00 pm. The Raleigh Camerata will be presenting a program of French Baroque music highlighting the various stages of compositional style within French composers of the Baroque era. The concert will be preceded by a masterclass on baroque performance for local flutists at 12:15 pm, which is open to the public to audit.

This noteworthy program will include music by some recognizable composers, including Jean-Marie LeClair and Marin Marais (whose music is featured in Tous les Matins du Monde), and some less well-known, including Louis Couperin, who was to become the uncle of the famous Francois Couperin. A trio sonata will be presented by the violinist and composer Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville, a Parisian contemporary with Rameau. Jean-Baptiste Quentin is another violinist-composer featured on this program, whose work will highlight the bass viol, performed by guest artist Gail Ann Schroeder. The ensemble is led by artistic director and founder, Kelly Nivison.

Leclair: Trio No. 8, Op. 2 in D Major
