Alien Globolinks have landed in downtown Greensboro, occupying the Carolina Theatre for Greensboro Opera’s February 20th and 21st production of Help, Help, the Globolinks! by Gian-Carlo Menotti!!  The performances mark the 75th anniversary of the CBS Radio Network’s broadcast of H.G. Wells’ “War of the Worlds.”   Showtimes are 7:30 p.m.

Menotti called his one-act opera a show “…for children and people who like children.”  Featuring singers from the Greensboro Youth Chorus, this evening is sure to delight your entire family! The story follows an eccentric cast of characters as they battle the invasion of supernatural beings known as Globolinks. By working together, they discover that only through the power of music can they repel the Globolinks and save the earth for good.

As part of Greensboro Opera’s mission of making opera available to everyone in the Triad, Help, Help, the Globolinks! will be presented to every Guilford County 5th grade student on the mornings of February 19-21 as part of “Opera at the Carolina.”

In partnership with the United Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, the opera company has embarked on an exciting initiative through the “power2give” program, through which local arts organizations can fund specific projects.  For information or to make a donation, please visit power2give.org/Greensboro/ and click on “Give a Child an Opera!”   In addition, the Greensboro Opera Company is proud to announce that “Opera at the Carolina” is made possible by generous gifts from the VF Corporation and the Cemala Foundation.

Tickets for the evening performances on the 20th and 21st are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for all students and children.  Discounts are available for families.  Tickets are available at the Carolina Theatre Box Office (336-333-2605) or by visiting www.carolinatheatre.com.   A $2.50 theatre restoration charge is added to the price of each ticket.
