Come take a breath of cool air in the midst of hot summer with NCBO's “Ice in August” program. North Carolina's new Baroque orchestra will take you through the chilly winds of Vivalid's “Winter” from the Four Seasons, the icy creaking of Purcell's "Cold Genius" from King Arthur, and the cheerful strains of Corelli's Christmas Concerto. Rarely heard arias with voice and orchestra by Antonio Caldara’s Maddalena ai piedi di Cristo bring energy, pathos and glorious harmonies to the fore, while Biber and Telemann vie for pride of place among orchestral composers.
Program:
Vivalidi - "Winter” from the Four Seasons
Purcell - "Cold Genius" from King Arthur
Corelli - Christmas Concerto
Antonio Caldara - Sinfonia and selected arias from oratorio Maddalena ai piedi di Cristo
Selections TBA from Biber and Telemann
$15 general; $10 students and seniors; children under 12 free
