This beautifully photographed series [of 8 movies] was filmed on location in seven countries in 1990. Hepburn interviews gardeners and authors, relating notable gardens to works of literature and art. In her words, “The arts of the garden, like those of the theatre, painting, music, and dance, nurture and comfort the human spirit.”
June 5 - “Roses and Rose Gardens”
June 7 - “Formal Gardens”
June 12 - “Country Gardens”
June 14 - “Public Gardens and Trees”
June 19 - “Flower Gardens”
June 21 - “Tropical Gardens”
June 26 - “Japanese Gardens”
June 28 - “Tulips and Spring Bulbs”.
The series is being shown in conjunction with the museum’s current exhibition, “A Genius for Place: American Landscapes of the Country Place Era,” on view through Aug. 5, 2012. The exhibition includes photographs of seven estates across the country, using the art of photography to illustrate the art of landscape design during the period of 1890 through 1930.
