July 3, 2017 - Greensboro, NC:

This preview has been provided by the Eastern Music Festival.

Eastern Music Festival enters its second week with acclaimed artists, classical treasures and a schedule packed with performances.

Internationally acclaimed soloists, world-class orchestral performers and instructors and 234 young artists from around the globe arrived in Greensboro June 24 for the Festival's 56th season.

On Wednesday, July 5, American pianist William Wolfram presents a solo concert at the Recital Hall of the UNCG College of Visual and Performing Arts. Wolfram was a silver medalist at both the William Kapell and the Naumburg International Piano Competitions and a bronze medalist at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow.

On Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, July 9, The Eastern Festival Orchestra, under the baton of EMF Music Director Gerard Schwarz presents Russian Tableaux, a concert featuring the music of great Romantic Russian composers: Rimsky-Korsakov, Glazunov and Mussorgsky. World-renown violin soloist Midori performs the thrilling and invigorating Tchaikovsky Violin Concert in E-Flat Major. The concert also features saxophonist and winner of the Rossen-Schaffel competition Hunter Bockes on the Glazunov Saxophone Concerto. The July 8 concert takes place at Guilford College's Dana Auditorium, and the July 9 concert takes place at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Appalachian State University.

The EMF Young Artist Orchestra Concert Series continues featuring some of the best young musicians in the country and the world. They perform Bruckner's Symphony No. 8 in C minor on Thursday, July 6 and Igor Stravinsky's tour-de-force The Rite of Spring on Friday, July 7. They will also perform a host of other exciting works such as Ginastera's fiery Danza Final (Malambo) from his ballet "Estancia" made famous throughout the world by Gustavo Dudamel and the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra.

EMF continues through July 29 with performances by EMF's professional orchestra, Eastern Festival Orchestra, as well as our two Young Artists Orchestras, recitals by faculty ensembles, chamber music performances, master classes, workshops and outreach activities in venues around the Triad including Guilford College, UNCG, High Point University and Greensboro's new LeBauer Park.
